Minotaur

2007 - 75X75X40cm - Edition 4/9
The small bronze Minotaur was bought at Sladmore Contemporary by Tom Perkins in 2009.  One of the first great venture capitalists, he went on to commission a large mirror polished stainless steel version for his apartment above the Golden Gate in San Francisco. The sculpture was fabricated by Sam Neal and a team of welders and metal polishers, under a railway arch in Camden Before the sculpture left for the States, it was exhibited with a Bugatti car at the first Masterpiece Art Fair in London in 2010 on the Sladmore stand.  The Sladmore won the best stand at the fair, which appeared in the Financial Times.  When Tom Perkins died, the sculpture was with him on his obituary photograph in The Times in June 2016.
The sculpture was re sold at Basel Miami (so no resale rights), and is now in New Zealand.  So much photographed, and much travelled.

Minotaur Medal

British Museum collection 10cm diameter

BAMS, The British Art Medal Society, is a wonderful organisation that puts on an exhibition of contemporary medals in central London every year.  The medals are much collected, often beautiful, clever and humorous.  I made this medal for a BAMS exhibition, and was lucky enough for it to be bought for the British Museum collection.  The two sides of a medal usually inter relate, so here the minotaur follows the string through the maze, only for it to end as his own tail.  So he is essentially lost.
