In 2013 Gerry Farrell, the director at Sladmore Contemporary, asked me if I could think of a sculpture installation for the outside of the gallery at 32 Bruton Place in central London. I am a bit of a vandal, and enjoy muralling and walls and invading spaces – so monkeys seemed a great idea. I photographed the front of the building and drew several monkeys clambering about the front. As a site specific work, the monkeys had to be made to hang of the building and peer through the windows at the right scale to fit. So I got the thumbs up, and made five outsized monkeys that were installed in 2014. There is a video on Vimmeo of the process, made by my nephew David Gilbey.
