A couple of Sardinian friends left a heap of barrel staves and iron bands outside my studio during lockdown to give me something to do. After a while it became obvious that they would be perfect for making a herd of wild boar. They are widespread in this area of Liguria, so a perfect subject. Also, during covid, wild boar, wolves, deer etc were reclaiming the streets, and rewilding was very much a theme. The circles of the barrel lids and the retaining metal hoops made for a slightly abstracted approach. The wine stains and the different degrees of ancientness added to the feral quality of the resulting 5 boar, scratching, sniffing and rubbing themselves.
