Flowers

The sculptures are richly textured, made originally from scrunched up paper and card dipped in pva glue, which is added to a steel and wood armature.  A silicone mould is made of the flower which is then editioned in bronze using the lost wax process.  One mould can replicate the same flower several times, so that there could be a whole bed of identical bronze flowers.

The bronzes are supplied with stainless steel armatures with fixings that can be lowered into pre-drilled holes in a concrete base which can then be permanently attached using specialist chemical glue.

Each flower is costed as a unit and can be duplicated according to whether a row of flowers would look more striking than a single one. They can be painted any colour, or patinated.

GEORGE HARRISON MEMORIAL WOODLAND WALK

My proposal was for a series of oversized figurative flower elements, that can add colour and whimsy to the George Harrison memorial woodland walk throughout the year.  Jeff Lynn described how he thought that George would want to be remembered as a great musician and a gardener.   “I’m really quite simple.  I plant flowers and watch them grow.”

Harrison himself, a devoted follower of Krishna consciousness, believed that we are all spirits in a body, and that the fact that we are all still here in these bodies means that we are not perfected.  The flowers are almost anima, woodland sprites that tiptoe lightly on balletic legs through the meadows and lean over to interact with visitors to the woodland.

The flowers are a nod in the direction of Harrison’s humour. They recall the gnomes in the Crackerbox Palace video, the surprise element for baby George as he is wheeled along in his pram.
